FAQ 3

 3.  My child has his own little personality and he is a very sensitive child.  How can I make sure he isn't unhappy?

I have before me a group of children with as many different personalities as there are children.  They do not all learn the same way, they do not all react the same way to success or failure.  They do not all behave the same way with me or with the other children.  They have not been raised the same way; they come from families whose important values may vary from one to the next.  I know all of that because I can see it all day long in my class and all throughout the year.  Nevertheless, I have to find a demeanor which suits each child.  I believe deeply that the class must be a place where the children are happy.  What suits one child very well may not suit another.  As for me, I try above all to be fair and especially to be predictable.  Rules must apply to everyone equally.  Nevertheless, I need you to tell me what is the most appropriate, efficient and suitable way to talk to, react to and help your child.  I ask that you make an appointment just to discuss this subject at the beginning of the year.  You know your child a thousand times better than I do.  Tell me based on your experience what is the best way to avoid upsetting your child, and to make him happy to come to class and, especially, let me know immediately if your child is having difficulties adapting or in his relations with the others.
